Aeristech wins prestigious Institute of Physics Business Award

Aeristech, has been awarded a 2019 Institute of Physics Business Innovation Award for the invention of a new class of variable speed motor.

The Aeristech ACT motor is a variable speed motor that is more power dense than comparable motors; it delivers exceptional acceleration, high continuous power output and efficiency.

To date three applications have been commercialised based on coupling an ACT motor to a compressor wheel. The resulting centrifugal compressors spin twice as fast as any other, delivering oil-free air at pressures and in quantities previously only possible if using a positive displacement compressor.

The IOP Business Awards recognise large and small companies that have built success on the creative application of physics. There are very few awards that do this.

The application of physics has the potential to produce cutting-edge technologies, and to drive business innovation and growth. It also fuels significant positive societal and economic transformation, both locally and globally.

Now, more than ever, we need continued investment to ensure a healthy supply of physicists in the UK and Ireland. These awards remind us of that, and of what can be achieved when our talent is encouraged, developed and rewarded.

Jonathan Flint, Institute of Physics President

A technology that delivers environmental benefits, with significant savings in cost and energy while enabling applications that were previously impossible.

The Aeristech centrifugal compressor has game-changing applications;

The Institute of Physics (IOP) is the professional body and learned society for physics, and the leading body for practising physicists, in the UK and Ireland.  The IOP Business Awards are unique in the UK and Ireland in recognising the significant contribution that physicists and physics make in industry.

The IOP Business Innovation Award specifically recognises and celebrates companies that have excelled in innovation, delivering significant economic and/or societal impact through the application of physics.

This award is worth winning as an Institute of Physics award has a provenance that few others can match.

Notes for Editors:

Founded in 2006, Aeristech is a technology research and development company specialising in patented high-speed, high-power & power dense electric motors, with state-of-the-art solutions for automotive and industrial applications.

The year 2020 sees the global introduction of stringent emission levels for automotive vehicle manufacturers, so Aeristech has been applying its unique motor design to the creation of electric supercharger for combustion engines and electric compressors for hydrogen fuel cells.

For internal combustion engines, pressurising the intake air to an engine improves performance and the ability to do this at low engine speeds with an electric boost device is now a proven benefit to reducing emissions.  Results have proved Aeristech Superchargers capable of assisting in over a 25% reduction in CO2 emissions.

For hydrogen fuel cell air compression, due to its patented motor control architecture, Aeristech offers a truly unique advantage over the competition. Not only are Aeristech eCompressors up to 35% more efficient than the next best machines in the market today, but their ability to operate with no performance derating over a very large range of input voltage is unprecedented.  This feature allows hydrogen fuel cell manufacturers the ability to place the eCompressor, the largest parasitic loss in HFCs, upstream of the DC- DC converter saving significant cost for the overall system.

The highly technical team has expertise in performance electric motor design, electronics, software and automotive best practice. The company is now commencing producing products based on its IP in partnership with established manufacturers.

Easyland is an international enterprise specializing in research and manufacturing of turbochargers that are applied to internal combustion engines, hybrid power, fuel cell power, and general aviation engines, which with business for aftermarket and OEM customers in China and aftermarket customers in Europe and North America. The company has attained many honours such as: the National Intelligent Manufacturing Demonstration Factory, the National Green Factory, and the National Two-in-One Convergence Management System. Double First for Aeristech at BEEA Awards Ceremony

Aeristech was delighted when it was presented with the "British Engineering Excellence Award" for "New Product of the Year 2018" at a ceremony on 4th October.

It was the first time the Company had put forward its Fuel Cell Air Compressor for an award. This is a rerun of last year, when the Aeristech 'Sole Charger' won.

Winning is not just an ego trip. Independent recognition of our achievement provides confirmation for our investors and customers that we really are are onto something.

Richard Wall, CEO of Aeristech

Of course better confirmation came a month ago when Aeristech signed its first £1million contract for these compressors.

NOTE: 25% of a fuel cells output is used to pressurise the air supply. Aeristech’s compressor is cheaper, smaller, lighter and significantly more efficient than any current fuel cell compressor.

Aeristech is on the Fast Track!

Some of the Aeristech team spent an evening on the fast track – karting, at what has become a regular feature in the Companies social calendar.

It's amazing that no one was injured, once they get on the track all they care about is winning.

Hao Xu

Unfortunately I missed out on the event as it coincided with a business trip that came up at short notice.

Richard Wall, CEO of Aeristech

His suggestion that his absence gave someone else a chance to win was voted joke of the week by the team.

Incredible First Results from the Aeristech Retrofit Programme

Aeristech engineers have been working for the last year on a retrofit package for the last year.

It's not easy, I am expected to fit a quart into a pint pot. But then I am used to it. Look at the performance of our eMotors and eCompressors. Any expert if asked 5years ago would have sworn what we have done was not possible.

Kevin, Chief Engineer

We are very pleased with progress to date and have just completed our first track tests. Just look at the pictures.

Richard Wall, CEO of Aeristech

Commercial Note: There is still some way to go before the retrofit kits are released for sale. Tuning is important as if you don’t get it exactly correct the vehicle blows up. If you are interested in a retrofit package we suggest that you follow the website until order forms become available.

Aeristech signs its first £1m contract for the supply of “Fuel Cell eCompressors”

Aeristech is delighted to announce that a contract has just been signed with a large hydrogen fuel cell manufacturer.

The £1m contract is for the supply of, 400-700V, ~10kW, variable speed motor compressors which are based on the companies patented motor control technology.

They will be used to pressurise the air supplied to 45kW-60kW fuel cells powering on and off-road vehicles.

The eCompressors will be supplied over the next year.  It is expected that there will be follow on orders for rapidly increasing volumes over at least the next five years. This is the first of several similar supply agreements for Aeristech’s fuel cell “eCompressors” that the company expects to sign in 2018.

Note on the technology

The power density and power output, of a hydrogen fuel cell stack is increased if the inlet air supply is pressurised. Aeristech technology is uniquely well suited to this application as its motor delivers constant torque (pressure) when directly connected to the fuel, without the need for a DC-DC converter.

Irrespective of changes in load / input voltage there is no fall off in the eCompressor performance. The motor has a class leading continuous rating and,  because of its superior efficiency, can operate without secondary cooling increasing both the vehicle range and improving the  duty cycle.

That's why Aeristech have been chosen to deliver our patented, efficient technology.
