Our patented technology powers the world’s most power-dense and fastest accelerating permanent magnet variable speed electric motors. Using air bearings, this enables the oil-free compressor performance required in hydrogen fuel cells and other cutting-edge applications.
This post is for a Senior Development Engineer with an Air Bearings background to work in our R&D team, and work cross-functionally in collaboration with various disciplines. The role will report to the Head of Research and Development.
Main Responsibilities
This role will involve, but is not limited to:
- Developing high speed rotor systems with focus of the bearings.
- Knowledge or experience of Hydrodynamic air bearings, either foil or spiral groove type.
- Working with bearing designers to select bearings for designs.
- Working with bearing designers to understand integration and analysis requirements.
- Working with design team to ensure bearings and shaft are being supported correctly.
- Design and analysis of bearing systems within the rotor design and operating profile of design
- Interfacing with internal and external stakeholders including presentations, technical reviews, meetings.
- Design of test rigs and programs to evaluate performance and production reliability.
- Planning and managing test programs to evaluate designs.
Skills, Experience and Personal Attributes
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with bearings.
- Knowledge of Hydrodynamic bearings.
- Proven successful projects involving bearing system design.
- Self-motivated, creative, with high attention to detail.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
- Detailed understanding of theoretical applications of rotordynamic principles and bearing design
- Enthusiastic and keen to be part of developing new technology for Hydrogen economy.
